As of yesterday at around 3pm, the Apex Magazine website was officially switched to the new design. If you're still seeing the old design, you'll need flush your browser's cookies and cache.
The change was made for several reasons. First, we wanted to bring Apex Book Company and Apex Magazine under the same virtual roof. Second, the old site was amassing quite a long list of annoying bugs (some users being unable to reset their My Account passwords, as an example). Third, we wanted to simplify our subscriber management and the tools available on the Shopify platform are much easier to manage than Woocommerce. Fourth, everything looks nice with a fresh coat of paint, right?
For end users, nearly everything remains the same. We're still at the same URL. We still offer the same free content. Subscriptions are still available.
We've pulled out the navigation elements of the old zine design and put them into a menu on the right. You want to peruse all our short fiction, just click on the category link. Wish to see our catalog of issues? There on the right. The landing page is much simpler and cleaner. The site is much faster, too.
Probably the biggest change is that we are no longer managing digital libraries for your orders. When you buy an issue, you'll receive a download email with a link to your ebook files. For subscribers, with the release of each new issue, you'll receive an email with a link to the issue downloads.
We'll be keeping the old server running for customers until the end of 2025. Between now and then, you'll need to download your library locally or to the cloud.
What if you lose your files or forget to download them? No problem, we have you covered. Just email us and we'll send you what you need.
There are a few site enhancements that we are working on creating. First, we're looking to add the word count display to our content posts. Second, we are fixing the co-author (and translated by) functionality. Third, we are still trying to migrate the content warnings over. Fourth, author bylines are still missing from some posts.
We hope you like the new site and find it to be responsive and easy to use! Bear with us as we work out the issues from what was a fairly large migration. That said, please don't hesitate to email us when you find a problem. We want our platform to be as awesome as the content we provide.
