As you probably know, Apex Magazine is launching our Kickstarter to fund 2026 tomorrow, October 1st. Today it came to our attention that Kickstarter United—a union of designers, support specialists, product managers, engineers, and more who power Kickstarter—is planning to strike on October 2nd if the Kickstarter executives and board members do not meet their demands for better industry standards. (You can read their statement with their demands and send a letter of support here.)
After learning this news, the Apex team debated what we should do. We need to run our Kickstarter or we won’t have the funds for next year, but at the same time we support Kickstarter United and want to stand with them in solidarity so they can have better working conditions. On Kickstarter United’s GoFundMe page, they clearly state that creators should still run their campaigns and backers should go ahead and fund the projects they believe in. Because of this statement, we have decided to go ahead with the launch of the Apex Magazine 2026 Kickstarter tomorrow.
To make it absolutely clear, Apex stands with Kickstarter workers. The Kickstarter executive teams should meet their demands and avoid the strike on October 2nd.
To further our support, Apex will send a free digital copy of Apex Magazine 2021 to anyone who backs our Kickstarter AND sends a donation to the Kickstarter United GoFundMe. Just send screenshots of your receipts to Rebecca E. Treasure at rebecca.treasure@apexbookcompany.com.
