Osvaldo Oyola recently secured his PhD in English from Binghamton University, focusing on the interplay of popular culture and identity in contemporary transnational American literature, thus proving wrong all the adults who told him he was wasting his time with comic books and role-playing games when he was in high school. He is a regular contributor to Sounding Out! a weekly peer-reviewed online publication focused on sound scholarship, and also posts his thoughts on comics, music, race, and gender on his own blog, The Middle Spaces. A native Brooklynite, Osvaldo still lives there with his poet wife, and two cats named for Katie and Francie Nolan from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
