The Apex Book of World SF Volume 5 Playlist: 18 songs to prepare you for preorders

I enjoy reading with musical accompaniment. I do this more with books, but a list of short fiction provides even more excitement, because I get to pick a song per story. What happens is that I end up enjoying each work as an experience of words and waves, of sound and story. So when I learnt the Apex Book of World SF Volume 5 was forthcoming (and currently open to preorders at an AUTOMATIC 25% OFF print and ebook if you click this link now), I took a peek into the TOC Jason spoke to Cristina (this volume's co-editor) about creating a playlist in anticipation.

Today, I'm sharing Cristina's playlist with you all. It means that when you get your copy of ABWSF5, not only do you get to dive head-first into this fresh, diverse collection, you get to experience it as a kaleidoscope of sound and story.

25% off on preorders with "WSF5" and story soundtracks? Hell yeah!

EVEN MORE FREEBIES: You can also get the chance to read the complete collection as a FREE ebook in exchange for an honest review by joining the Apex Minions Read & Review program.

    By Lesley Conner
    on June 03, 2015

For Exposure: The Life and Times of a Small Press Publisher by Jason Sizemore chronicles Jason’s journey over the past ten years as the owner/publisher of Apex Publications and the events that set him on that road. This nonfiction book is filled with humorous essays by Jason, with rebuttals from some of the people who have helped shape Apex into what it is today.

On June 20th, we’re releasing For Exposure at the Apex Publications 10th Anniversary Celebration being held at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, KY. The party kicks off at 5pm, with a panel on small press publishing, a reading by Jason Sizemore from For Exposure, and the chance to get the book signed by Jason and several of the authors of the rebuttal essays. More about For Exposure by Jason Sizemore

What does it take to become a Hugo and Stoker Award-nominated editor and publisher? Follow Jason Sizemore's unconventional professional path as it winds through a tiny, overheated Baptist church deep within the coal fields of Appalachia, Kentucky, past a busted printer and a self-serving boss that triggered an early mid-life crisis and the epiphany that he should open a magazine spreading the gospel of science fiction to the masses, all the way to WorldCon 2012 and his first Hugo Awards ceremony.

In this collection of semi-true and sometimes humorous essays, Jason exposes the parties, people, and triumphs that shaped him into the Apex Overlord. He also lays bare the hardships and failures that have threatened to take it all away. Meet Thong Girl, heed the warning about the ham, receive rest stop bathroom wisdom, and visit an emergency room straight out of a horror movie in this extraordinary account of life as a publisher and editor.

With rebuttal essays from Maurice Broaddus, Monica Valentinelli, Lesley Conner, and more, For Exposure tells Jason’s story with insight from key players along his road to success. It is a comprehensive and frank look at what Apex and the genre publishing business is about. Take a shot with the publisher, dance the night away, and become a legend. And do it all For Exposure.

    Severance Package Preorder Deal!

Yesterday we opened up preorders for Severance, a new humorously dark science fiction novel by Cracked.com columnist Chris Bucholz. Already we're offering our standard preorder deal: preorder a trade paperback edition of Severance (out December 9th) and receive the eBook edition for free immediately, plus free domestic shipping.

A great deal for an amazing book, but we thought we could do better.

One lucky person who preorders Severance through the Apex store - preorders will be open until the release in early December - will win a Severance Package.

What's in this Severance Package? That's a good question, and I have an outstanding answer. How does Apex's next two releases sound? For free, delivered to you when they come out. What if I told you that Apex's next releases are made up of Brian Keene's much anticipated novel The Lost Level and Damien Angelica Walters' collection Sing Me Your Scars and Other Stories? Interested now? I thought so.

A fantastic prize for one lucky person, and all you have to do is preorder Severance for your chance to win.

Want to check out an excerpt of Severance before you order? Read the first chapter here.
