Apex in December 2022

We're winding down 2022 and it is both hard to believe and a long time coming. While the magazine is closed to submissions for the month of December, we still have a ton of events and exciting releases to share with you.

Issue 134

Issue 134 continues to be released on our website. In November we released "The Walking Mirror of the Soul" and an interview with the author, Renan Bernardo, "The Healer" by Jennifer Marie Brissett, "The Words" by Clelia Farris and translated by Rachel Cordasco, "The Satellite Charmer" by Mame Bougouma Diene, "How Can You Be" by Jason Sanford, and "Words for Thought" by A.C. Wise. Still to come in December is short fiction by Margaret Dunlap, Samit Basu, and Scott Edelman, nonfiction by Joy Sanchez-Taylor, and interviews of Margaret Dunlap by Marissa van Uden and Cover Artist Andrew McIntosh by Bradley Powers.

Apex Magazine: 2021 Virtual Book Launch and Release

On December 19th at 11am eastern, join editors Lesley Conner and Jason Sizemore, and authors Maggie Slater, Elana Gomen, and Beth Dawkins for a virtual book launch of Apex Magazine: 2021! The anthology officially releases on December 20th—pre-orders are available now—and the authors will join Jason and Lesley to take your questions and celebrate the release. Watch our blog, Patreon, and YouTube channel for the link!

With stories by Alix E. Harrow, Sam J. Miller, Sheree Renée Thomas, Cassandra Khaw, and many more, Apex Magazine 2021 is a collection of darkly beautiful tales appearing originally in Apex Magazine January-December 2021. From a spaceship in the far-flung reaches of space to a cozy living room where a detective interviews a killer, this anthology explores the good and the ugly. It dissects what makes us human versus what makes us monsters.
Within these pages, you will meet a golem that doesn’t know how to save its family, a group of robots debating whether they are alive, and a woman striving for that social media-perfect life. From parasitic twins to a hospital dreamscape, to a town full of people wearing masks, this anthology will take you on journeys you never could have expected.

Apex Magazine: 2021 will also be our Patreon December Book of the Month—watch for lots of interviews from the authors of the anthology, as well as critiques from editor Lesley Conner.

Instagram Live with Scott Edelman

On December 20th, author Scott Edelman will be joining Lesley Conner on our Instagram for an IG live conversation about his story, "Learning to Accept What's to Come" and more.

Scott Edelman has published more than 100 short stories in Analog, The Twilight Zone, Weirdbook, Parsec, and dozens of other magazines and anthologies. Many of those stories can be found in his collections These Words Are Haunted, What Will Come After, What We Still Talk About, Tell Me Like You Done Before, and his recent Things That Never Happened, about which Publishers Weekly wrote, "his talent is undeniable." He has been a finalist for the Shirley Jackson Memorial Award, as well as the Bram Stoker Award eight times. He is also the host of Eating the Fantastic, a podcast which has allowed listeners to eavesdrop on his meals with writers and editors since 2016.

This is a week late, I am so sorry everyone! Between the holidays and some other things, I had it written up but didn't get it uploaded until today. Won't happen again! (Rebecca)
