A new year is beginning … or is it?
Our theme for the first drabble contest in 2025 is “End of Days.” 2024 is coming to an end and with it come resolutions for the new year, but what if there is no tomorrow? What do you do when the end is nigh and you have nothing left to lose? What does the end look like and who is there to see it?
Whether the world is going out with a whimper or a bang, editor Kai Delmas is looking for 100-word stories to feature in Apex Magazine. These stories must be exactly 100 words—no more, no less—and center around the theme of “End of Days.” (The word count does not include the title.) Interpret the theme as you will, but make it impactful, make it matter.
Three winners will be selected, and their stories will be published in Apex Magazine issue 149, releasing in April 2025.
Submissions for this drabble contest open on January 1st, 2025 and will close January 15th, 2025.
Payment is $0.08 per word.
