Tade Thompson is a talented writer that we here at Apex think everyone should be reading (check out his story "Child, Funeral, Thief, Death" in Apex Magazine issue 76). Later this year we will be bringing you a whole lot more from Tade with a new sci-fi novel.

Rosewater is science fiction novel set in Nigeria that deals with an alien invasion and the impact it has on Earth.

Today we have the cover for this awesome new book, as well as the synopsis. Later this week, we'll open up preorders so you can be the first in line to read it.

Between meeting a boy who bursts into flames, alien floaters that want to devour him, and a butterfly woman who he has sex with when he enters the xenosphere, Kaaro’s life is far from the simple one he wants. But he left simple behind a long time ago when he was caught stealing and nearly killed by an angry mob. Now he works for a government agency called Section 45, and they want him to find a woman known as Bicycle Girl. And that’s just the beginning.

An alien entity lives beneath the ground, forming a biodome around which the city of Rosewater thrives. The citizens of Rosewater are enamored by the dome, hoping for a chance to meet the beings within or possibly be invited to come in themselves. But Kaaro isn’t so enamored. He was in the biodome at one point and decided to leave it behind. When something begins killing off other sensitives like himself, Kaaro defies Section 45 to search for an answer, facing his past and coming to a realization about a horrifying future.

Stay Crazy by Erica L. Satifka - Cover Reveal and Preorders!

By Lesley Conner
on June 23, 2016

A while back we shared the wonderful cover art Nickolas Brokenshire created for Stay Crazy by Erica L. Satifka. Today we have the final cover, with the title layout being completed by Matt Davis. The title layout really completes the look of this incredibly fun book!

Check it out!

Stay Crazy is slated to be released this August. It is a science fiction tale with a twisted sense of humor, mixing the pitfalls of family, a dead-end job, and mental health.

After a breakdown at college landed Emmeline Kalberg in a mental hospital, she’s struggling to get her life on track. She’s back in her hometown and everyone knows she’s crazy, but the twelve pills she takes every day keep her anxiety and paranoia in check. So when a voice that calls itself Escodex begins talking to Em from a box of frozen chicken nuggets, she’s sure that it’s real and not another hallucination. Well … pretty sure.

An evil entity is taking over the employees of Savertown USA, sucking out their energy so it can break into Escodex’s dimension. When her coworkers start dying, Em realizes that she may be the only one who can stop things from getting worse. Now she must convince her therapist she’s not having a relapse and keep her boss from firing her. All while getting her coworker Roger to help enact the plans Escodex conveys to her though the RFID chips in the Savertown USA products. It’s enough to make anyone Stay Crazy.

I know you’re dying to read this one! And the best part, you can preorder it today! For only $12, preorder your copy of Stay Crazy – saving $3.95 off the msrp – AND we’ll throw in a copy of the Apex Magazine sampler as well!

Yours to Tell - Cover Reveal

By Lesley Conner
on June 14, 2016

Yours to Tell: Dialogues on the Art & Practice of Writing by Steve Rasnic Tem and Melanie Tem is a writers guide to fiction based on Steve and Melanie’s writing processes and experiences they’ve had teaching fiction, including two stints at the annual Odyssey Writing Workshop in New Hampshire.

We're hoping to have Yours to Tell: Dialogues on the Art & Practice of Writing out in time for the holidays this year, with a projected release date of November, 2016.

Today we have the cover to share with you. The cover design is by Russell Dickerson.

About Yours to Tell, Steve says, “The book consists of a series of dialogues in which we discuss a number of topics on the writing of fiction, a method which we developed while teaching and continued to use for various articles and columns on both genre and non-genre writing. This is a unique approach for a writing guide, and has the advantage of presenting two different, but complimentary points of view for the basic issues of craft and encouragement which face all writers, whatever their level of skill and experience. We made this guidebook dense with practical information, empowering for new writers desiring a path for learning the craft, and inspiring even for those with more experience but wanting a fresh and encouraging view of the fiction writing process.”

The Kraken Sea - Cover Reveal

By Lesley Conner
on March 30, 2016

E. Catherine Tobler's The Kraken Sea is coming in June, 2016. Are you ready?

Set in her traveling circus universe, this magical 40,000 word novella tells the story of the circus's founder Jackson - how he fell in love with trains, pageantry, and strange monsters. You don't want to miss it!

In the announcement for the Give Me Tentacles ARC contest (I will reveal the winner at the bottom of this post!), I spoke a little about the search for the cover art for The Kraken Sea. We didn't find a piece that represented our original vision - glorious tentacles wrapping around the cover and grabbing onto readers - but I hope you will agree that the artwork we did find is absolutely breathtaking.

This cover makes me so, so happy. It is beautiful and amazing and though it isn't exactly what we thought we wanted, it works oh so well. The art is titled "Overcast" and is by Magdalena Pągowska. You can find more of her amazing work at her DeviantArt page.

As for our tentacles, the winner of the Give Me Tentacles contest is Rebecca Hurley. She submitted a beautiful piece done is lovely shades of blue and green. A great tentacle find! Elise and I were smitten. Congratulations, Rebecca! We'll get the ARC copy of The Kraken Sea out to you soon.

For everyone else, June will be here before we know it, so wait patiently for your own copy of The Kraken Sea. It will definitely be worth it.

on July 13, 2015

Since 2009, Lavie Tidhar and Apex Publications have been gathering stories from around the globe, showcasing authors from Africa, Latin American, Asia, and Europe in our popular World SF series. In the first three volumes, we've published more than 50 stories of amazing speculative fiction.

The fourth volume of World SF brings us new stories, a new editor - Mahvesh Murad - and a new sleek look. Looking at the cover of the fourth volume, we decided it was time to revamp the look of the first three volumes as well.

With the release of The Apex Book of World SF 4 at the end of August, all four volumes of World SF will have new covers. Each book will have its own distinct cover, but with a similar style, giving the series a cohesive look.

The Apex Book of World SF 1

The Apex Book of World SF 2

The Apex Book of World SF 3

And what about the new volume? The Apex Book of World SF 4? Well, for that cover you will have to wait.

What I can tell you is the cover reveal will be very soon, and with it we will have a special preorder deal that you will not want to miss.

These new covers will be released the same day as The Apex Book of World SF 4. Cover design by Sarah Anne Langton.
