Dressing the Skeleton: Long Form Writing for Short Form Writers
Learn and acquire tips, strategies, tools, and techniques for writing long form specifically targeted towards those who are more acquainted with short fiction (short stories, flash fiction, micro fiction, drabbles). This workshop will explore areas such as differences between long form and short form openings, character arcs, structures, and plot and subplot development, as well as how to use short fiction techniques to a writer’s advantage in long form. In short, this workshop will help guide sparse writers in their novel, novella, and novelette writing endeavours.

What to bring: A way to take notes.
Expectations: Audio required. Video is preferred, but not necessary.
Class Notice: After the workshop is completed, you will be provided a digital packet containing lecture materials and any pertinent resource links. This session will be recorded and potentially made available via our online store at some point. Copies of the recording will be provided to class ticket holders.

Instructor Bio: Ai Jiang is a Chinese-Canadian writer, a Nebula-, Locus-, Ignyte Award finalist, and an immigrant from Fujian. She is a member of HWA and SFWA. Her work can be found in F&SF, The Dark, Uncanny, among others. She is the recipient of Odyssey Workshop's 2022 Fresh Voices Scholarship and the author of Linghun and I AM AI.
