“So the Nebulas are fast approaching, and while I’m not nervous about the awards themselves (because I’m secure in my knowledge that I’m going to lose), what I am nervous about is the book signing on Friday night. I’d rather lose an award in a ballroom full of people than sit alone at a signing table while everyone around me is selling and signing books.
So, if you’re in Austin, and you don’t yet have a copy of my book, why not swing by the Omni Hotel on Friday some time between 5:30 and 8:00? I’ll be on the third floor in the Longhorn room sitting behind a pile of books and looking lonely.”
Even though she’s rather secure in her knowledge that she’s going to lose, we’re still going to say “Best of luck!”
And don’t make Jen feel lonely and unloved. Get her to sign stuff.
