From Alethea’s blog post over at the Shocklines forum…

Hi, everybody! My essay book Beauty & Dynamite is up for preorder this week at the Apex Book site, and I’m celebrating!
It’s got all my essays from Apex Digest, the best selections from my blog, an introduction by Brian Keene, an afterword by Jason Sizemore HisBorgSelf, contributing essays from awesome folks like Tom Piccirilli and John Ringo and Maurice Broaddus and Ken Scholes and my grandmother, fantastic interior art by Daniele Serra and Judi Davidson, a gorgeous cover, and even some bad poetry. It’s crazy and it’s a lot of fun…just like me.
But when Jason asked me to get some quotes from him, I was torn. I didn’t want any…and I don’t *have* any, because reviewers never include the non-fiction in their reviews. (I’m not bitter.) But he begged, the poor boy. So I told him it was all or nothing. I wanted quotes from EVERYBODY.
That means you!
So here’s the deal: if you have ever read any of my essays in Apex, or any of my epic blog posts (go read one real quick), please post your quote in this thread. Jason’s going to put them in a randomized quote-rotator on the Beauty & Dynamite order page. On April 25th, we’ll pick a random quote from this thread and send the poster their very own signed copy of Beauty & Dynamite AND a big honkin’ goodiebox o’books (because I love y’all…and I can’t send just one book. That would be rude). And yes, before you ask, I am more than happy to send this big honkin’ goodiebox anywhere in the world so please don’t let that stop you from getting your cousin’s former roommate in Madagascar to pitch in.
Some great quotes I have so far are:
“Alethea Kontis has already more than proven herself as both a fiction writer and editor, but this collection of non-fiction pieces shows her to be an essayist of the first order; funny, angry, insightful, and eloquent, Alethea’s essays are what all non-fiction should be: a feast for the mind and the soul. Beauty & Dynamite, indeed.”
–Five-time Bram Stoker Award winner Gary A. Braunbeck, author of Mr. Hands and Coffin County
“Alethea’s essays are a delight. Warm, witty, and wise, they never fail to bring a smile to my face.”
–Tim Waggoner, author of Pandora Drive and Darkness Wakes
“Alethea and I have a lot in common…we are both attractive, young women with long dark hair and great…well, you know. Only she is a much better writer than I am. These essays offer a glimpse into the person she is and the person she wants to be. She’ll make you laugh and cry and call information to try and get her phone number. But don’t try that…we don’t take too kindly to stalkers around here.”
–Lillie Rainey, co-worker and costumer extraordinaire
What are you waiting for?
Bring it on!!
