Connections and Community

One of the things I love about the speculative fiction community is the simple fact that we really are a community. My wife Nomi and I have been involved in science fiction, both as fans and as professionals, for almost twenty-five years now, and each year we befriend new people who are as eager to connect with us as we are to connect with them. It’s amazing. Two recent events in my life have emphasized this sense of community for me. I’d like to share them with you. Last month, I received an email from the organizers of the Robots: From Imagination to Market conference being held at MIT, asking if I would be willing to give the introductory presentation. Post-mortem: Operation Fourth Story and Announcements

Posted by on Apr 18, 2014 in Apex Publications Blog: Matters of SF, Fantasy, and Horror | 0 comments

Now that Operation Fourth Story has finished, I thought I would share some of the numbers and make a couple of cool announcements. Our goal was 250 new subscriptions in two weeks. Operation Fourth Story: The Final Day!

Posted by on Apr 17, 2014 in Apex Publications Blog: Matters of SF, Fantasy, and Horror | 1 comment

This is it. The last day of Operation Fourth Story. Unless you’ve been living in a bunker on a self-imposed internet sabbatical for the past two weeks, I’m sure you know what Operation Fourth Story is, but there have been a flurry of updates, reviews, guest posts, and interviews over the last fifteen days,  and I wanted to take a moment to summarize everything that’s been going on just in case you missed something. Operation Fourth Story is our subscription push to get enough new subscribers to have the revenue to add an additional 4000 to 5000 words of original fiction to each issue of Apex Magazine.
