Lavie: I think, for me, it began in 2000, when I travelled along the Trans-Siberian route, from Moscow to Beijing – it took us about two months, with the longest single journey being from Ekaterinburg to Irkutsk, across Siberia itself, about 3 days. There is something very dreamy about train travel, especially when there are snow storms outside… while inside there is a samovar full of hot water for tea, and in-built speakers that would wake you up each morning with Russian radio.
